Density of carbon steel

The density of plain mild steel is often stated to be 7.85. Alternately density of 7.88 may be quoted for mild steel. The grade of steel that you are talking about can change this value. Alloying elements such as tungsten, chrome or manganese changes the density. So the density of steel can vary from 7.75 and 8.05.
Density of carbon steel is slightly higher than the density of steel ferritic and martensitic stainless steel, while slightly lower than austenitic stainless steel; resistivity by carbon steel, ferritic, martensitic and austenitic stainless steel Sort Ascending; linear expansion Sort coefficient size is similar, austenitic stainless steel of the highest minimum; carbon steel, ferritic and martensitic stainless steel magnetic, non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel, but it generates a work hardening martensitic phase transformation when will generate magnetism, heat treatment method can be used to eliminate this martensite and restore its non-magnetic.
Compared with austenitic stainless steel, has the following characteristics:
1) high resistivity, carbon steel is about 5 times.
2) a large linear expansion coefficient, 40% larger than that of carbon steel, and as the temperature rises, the value of the linear expansion coefficient is also increased accordingly.
3) low thermal conductivity, about 1/3 of carbon steel.
